What health care can minors consent to on their own?
A minor of any age who believes he or she has a sexually transmitted disease may consent to medical or surgical care. A minor who is at least 13 years old who believes they may be infected with HIV/AIDS may consent to care. A minor of any age who appears to the treating physician to have been sexually assaulted may consent to care. In cases of sexual assault, the minor’s parents must be notified immediately unless the physician determines that such notification is not in the minor’s best interest.
