California advocates sent 20,577 emails to their local Assembly members, resulting in the amendment of AB659. What health care can minors consent to on their own?
A minor who is 15 years of age or older and is living separately from his or her parents or guardian and is managing his or her own financial affairs may consent to medical or dental care. This is true whether or not the parents consent to the minor living separately from them and regardless of the source of the minor’s income.
A minor who is 12 years of age or older and who may have an infectious, contagious, or communicable disease may consent to medical care related to the diagnosis or treatment of the disease, if the disease or condition is one that is required by law to be reported to the local health officer, or is a related sexually transmitted disease.
