IOWA: Act now to support emergency powers reform
Please encourage the State Government Committee Chairs in both chambers to schedule SF91/HF303 to go to full committee
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- SF91/HF303 restricts governmental power in emergencies and public health disasters. These bills need our support!
- As the emergency and public-health-disaster powers are currently written, the governor or director of HHS can force testing, vaccination, treatment, or quarantines, in addition to restricting assembly, business access, religious gatherings, and more. These laws were written and enacted over 15 years ago as a top-down piece of legislation from the CDC.. Now that we have seen the tendency for government overreach in these situations, the laws need to be re-evaluated.
- Medical issues and religious beliefs are not null and void during an epidemic. The interference from national board associations with the way our medical providers were allowed to practice medicine must be addressed. Countless lives could have been saved if doctors had been able to treat patients using their own judgment and expertise.
- The First Amendment to the Constitution protects a person’s freedom to exercise their religious beliefs as they see fit, regardless of whether it’s an emergency.
- The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution protects a persons’ right to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures. This also applies to a person’s bodily integrity and prevents a person from being forced to accept a medical product or procedure.
- The Fifth Amendment to the Constitution protects a person from being deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law. Property includes anything of a physical, spiritual, opinion, or bodily nature. It would also protect against unconstitutional quarantine of the healthy and being forced to accept a medical product or procedure.
- The Ninth Amendment of the Constitution states all remaining rights not listed in the U.S. Constitution belong to the people. These rights include: inalienable/natural rights, individual responsibility, and liberty. Freedoms which belong to us by nature can only be justly taken away through due process.
- Take action today! Tell your story about how the initial six-week lockdown impacted your lives, your denial of treatment for COVID, and why you believe these laws will be abused in the future. Please email the State Government Committee Chairs, leadership, and your representatives in both chambers and let them know this is a priority to Iowans!
