Iowa Protects Parental Consent for Minor Medical Decisions
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- Right now, in Iowa, teenagers can agree to medical care for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) without needing their parents’ permission.
- SF120 was filed and would change this rule so that teens cannot get vaccines for STDs on their own; they would need their parents to agree first. The bill focuses on making sure parents are involved when it comes to their kids getting vaccines for STDs.
- Even with this change, teens could still get other medical treatments for STDs without needing parental consent.
- ACTION: Please take action now and let subcommittee know you support this common sense bill.
