Protect Naturopathic Schools
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- PROBLEM: Arizona is facing a convergence of state policy and federal action that threatens patient access, economic disruption of the naturopathic physician workforce, and the future of integrative healthcare. Access to supportive aligned doctors is central to preserving Health Freedom.
- WHY YOU SHOULD CARE: A federal advisory committee has recommended denying accreditation recognition for naturopathic medical programs. If finalized, this action creates immediate and serious downstream consequences:
- Closure risk for naturopathic medical schools
- Approximately 2,000 students nationally at risk of withdrawal with significant debt
- Loss of future licensure pathways across 26 states and jurisdictions
- Major disruption to Arizona’s integrative healthcare workforce
- This is not theoretical. It is a near term federal action that directly intersects with Arizona law.
- This represents a broader issue:
- The future of integrative medicine
- Provider diversity in healthcare
- Patient access to preferred care models
- Workforce pipeline stability and economic disruption
- At the same time, Arizona law currently creates a care gap: Naturopathic physicians can prescribe antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals, but cannot administer them intravenously despite similar training and existing IV authority for other therapies.
- SB1178 addresses both issues simultaneously by:
- Aligning care delivery within existing licensed, board supervised practice
- Supporting continuity of care and access
- Protecting workforce stability during federal uncertainty
- ACTION: Pass SB1178 to improve care delivery and protect Arizona’s healthcare workforce and licensure continuity.
