Vermont: Click to oppose minor consent to drugs and vaccinations behind parents’ backs!
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- S151 has two sections tucked inside of it on “minor consent to preventative services” (aka vaccines) and “consent to treatment by minors.”
-
Vermont’s Senate Health committee took (last minute) testimony on Feb 6 from the University of Vermont’s, Director of Adolescent Medicine, who was in in full support of child consent for HIV pills and HPV vaccine as “prevention.” She noted that the AAP and the VT Med Society and the University of Vermont Health Network all concur (see important 10 min testimony here, Where you can see the gleeful lobbyists on camera) so everyone knows what legislators are being told. Of note, Aaron Siri sent a letter in opposition to the bill. So did VT Family Alliance and Health Choice Vermont.
-
Please Note that the Senate Health Committee is taking and sharing only invited testimony – and has not posted publicly any of the testimony in opposition.
- Make your concerns about giving “HIV and HPV preventatives” (drugs and vaccines) to children known, to Vermont Senators, ASAP. Limiting testimony to invited testimony only limits public, press and legislator understanding of concerns over minor consent. (For example, Aaron Siri, VT Family Alliance, Health Choice Vermont and at least one MD have all submitted written testimony to Senators. So have concerned citizens. None of it appears anywhere. To see what has been posted, click here.)
- Along with Health Choice Vermont, we are calling for all concerned senators, representatives, individuals, and organizations to help oppose minor consent provisions in the Vermont legislature this year.
- Drugs and vaccines carry both known and unknown risks. Worse yet, vaccine manufacturers are not liable for any injuries the shots may cause.
- Leaders in this state must never allow health care providers to go behind parents’ backs to entice children to consent to drugs and vaccines.
- Children should never be coerced into accepting vaccines or any medical treatment. And parents should never be cut out of the process. In fact, it is a violation of federal law to do so.
- Parents make these decisions since they assume 100% of the risk, should their child be sickened or killed by a shot. And sadly, this does happen. Over 860 reports have already been filed since 2000 concerning Vermont children under age 18, including 12 deaths.
- Positioned as “preventative,” a swath of “teen vaccines” would be enabled by this bill, to be given without parental knowledge or consent..
- Children are not equipped to adequately assess medical risk. That’s why the statutory age for medical consent is 18. Tell your senator and the members of the Senate Health and Welfare Committee to oppose these provisions now. We must protect our children by protecting parental rights.
