Fluoridation of Palm Beach County water must end now
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- Citizens across the state of Florida have voiced a clear mandate, public water fluoridation must end.
- The overwhelming position voiced by Floridians is simple, citizens deserve a choice when it comes to medication. This ability to choose is highlighted in our FL. Statute 381.026 which calls for informed consent, a risk benefit analysis and the ability to opt out of treatment. Medicating through the water violates this statute and is unethical. When a medication is delivered through the water, there is no information provided, risks are not conveyed and of course there is no ability to say no.
- In the past 12 months, significant new data and expert guidance have emerged, reinforcing the urgency of this issue:
-
- The National Toxicology Program published findings linking fluoride exposure at 1.5 ppm to neurodevelopmental and cognitive harm.
- In September 2024, Federal Judge Chen ruled against the EPA, citing fluoride’s unreasonable risk of injury to children, including IQ loss. The court ordered the EPA to take regulatory action.
- In October 2024, a Cochrane study found little to no benefit in preventing tooth decay from ingesting fluoridated water.
- In November 2024, Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo issued formal guidance against water fluoridation, warning of neuropsychiatric risks, particularly for pregnant women and children.
- On March 4, 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis publicly opposed water fluoridation, stating: “Let people make decisions, no forced medication.”
- Since August 2023, 27 cities and counties in Florida have ended public water fluoridation in response to these concerns. Palm Beach County must now take action to protect its residents.
