The silence in North Carolina is deafening. The pandemic has stretched on for nearly two years and not once have We The People had the opportunity to directly express our concerns to our representatives in the form of public hearings. Science is constantly evolving but our approach to the pandemic has not. And we desperately need to re-evaluate. We have been calling on our legislators to offer a platform for citizens—in particular scientists, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers—to share their insights, opinions, and grievances in regard to the COVID-19 response but we have been ignored.
In response, a collaboration of North Carolina organizations (PAVE, 2 Citizen Moms, and HEALNC) are coordinating a summit to examine how hospitals have been handling COVID, pitfalls with treatments, and ways to improve outcomes. It’s crucial for legislators to attend the summit so they can learn firsthand what’s happening and hear from citizens. Health policy decisions affect the lives of millions, yet very few of us have had any say in what’s occuring.
We’re in desperate need of open, public discourse. A recent Gallup survey found that more than one-third of Americans believe that at least half of those infected with COVID-19 need to be hospitalized and more than half of all Americans believe that at least 20% of all cases need to be hospitalized. In reality, only 1-5% of all cases need hospitalization. This is a massive misunderstanding and a communication failure on the part of our public health officials. We can solve this problem by allowing our best and brightest to speak in a forum where all can listen. If the goal is truly to “follow the science” and to “listen to the experts,” we need to hold public hearings that allow nurses, doctors, and scientists the opportunity to share their experiences.
Nearly 7,000 of these doctors and scientists have now signed the Rome Declaration that accuses policymakers of “crimes against humanity” for how the pandemic has been handled. Thousands have died from COVID-19 as a result of denial of life-saving early treatment and as of October 2021, there is still no outpatient treatment. More than 60 peer-reviewed studies show that Ivermectin is undeniably effective at treating COVID-19 when used prophylactically and given as an early treatment. The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh recently declared itself completely COVID-19 free due to the widespread distribution of Ivermectin. This region has a vaccination rate that’s less than 6%. So clearly, there is more to this conversation.
The summit will give North Carolina doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals an opportunity to testify on such issues as:
- Disparate treatment of vaccinated and unvaccinated patients
- Doctors being threatened for “COVID misinformation” and for prescribing Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine
- Limiting doctors’ treatment options to only CDC protocols
- The damage caused by Remdesivir and ventilators
- Vaccine injuries and deaths and lack of reporting to VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System)
- Censorship of information on effective treatment options and vaccine side effects
- The negative impact of masks on human health
- Disparate treatment of unvaccinated medical staff
- Refusal to honor medical and religious exemptions
We have been following public officials’ recommendations since the beginning of the pandemic and each time a goal is not met as expected, the goalpost is simply moved and redefined. It’s time to open up the floor to other qualified individuals to present and try new solutions. It’s time to be brave and to look to the many other brilliant minds in our communities to forge a better path forward.
