Where’s the Beef From? Demand Truth in Labeling.
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
In 1984, America asked, “Where’s the beef?” – a question about substance that still matters today. But now, the issue isn’t what’s inside the bun, it’s where the beef comes from.
- The Problem: Right now, foreign beef can be labeled “Product of the USA” simply because it’s been repackaged or processed here. This deceptive loophole misleads consumers, hurts American farmers and ranchers, and allows big corporations to profit from false labels. Americans think they’re supporting local producers when, in fact, they’re buying imported meat.
- Why You Should Care: You deserve the right to know where your food comes from, and to make informed choices about what you put on your family’s table. Honest labeling protects U.S. ranchers who play by the rules and ensures that American families aren’t tricked at the grocery store. Transparency in our food system shouldn’t be up for debate.
- The Solution: The Country of Origin Labeling Enforcement Act of 2025, introduced by Representatives Thomas Massie, Harriet Hageman, Ro Khanna, and others, closes the labeling loophole and restores truth to the marketplace. It requires accurate “country of origin” labeling for beef and imposes real penalties, up to $5,000 per pound, on anyone who falsely brands foreign meat as American.
- ACTION: Tell your lawmakers to stand with American farmers, ranchers, and consumers by supporting the Country of Origin Labeling Enforcement Act of 2025. Help restore honesty and accountability to America’s food labels.
