- UPDATE! HB87 will be in Senate Judiciary A on Tuesday, May 7th, 9:00 am in the John Hainkel Room. Send a statement of support to the committee NOW and attend this meeting to submit a green card in support!
- HB87 by Rep Michael Echols prohibits a COVID-19 vaccine mandate by imposing a $50,000 fine on government agencies and large businesses that violate the law, and a $10,000 fine on small businesses that violate it.
- But wait, there is more! Rep Echols has included MASKS in the bill! It reads: “Except as provided by Paragraph (2) of this Subsection, a governmental entity or business shall not implement, order, or impose a mandate requiring a person to wear a face covering to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”
- There is an exception for nursing homes, hospitals, and correctional facilities, but it also acknowledges religious exemptions under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act for any COVID-19 vaccine mandate that CMS may impose.
