Restore Trust in Public Health Messaging in Tennessee
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- HB 1157 (Bill language here) legislation will help restore trust in public health messaging by ensuring our state public health agencies, as well as the Governor’s office, which also distributes public health messaging, stay strictly within the labeling authorization for FDA regulated products.
- In a nutshell, this bill says if Pfizer can’t say it, neither can the TN Department of Health (TDH).
- Example: TDH has distributed much messaging claiming it’s safe to receive a COVID-19 vaccine during pregnancy. If this bill becomes law, they will no longer be able to say that because Pfizer’s Comirnaty product label states: “Available data on COMIRNATY administered to pregnant women are insufficient to inform vaccine-associated risks in pregnancy.”
- The bill also ensures that state funding and federal funding distributed by the state through grants is never used to promote or distribute messaging that conflicts with FDA product labeling.
- This bill will be heard on Wednesday, February 26th at noon.
- ACTION: Contact members of the House Health Subcommittee now and tell them why YOU support HB 1157. Please tell YOUR personal story of why you have lost trust in public health messaging.
