INDIANA: Help protect health care students from forced vaccination!
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- We have received countless stories from health science students that they are unable to fulfill clinical requirements for their degree without getting vaccinated, despite claiming a religious exemption through their school.
- Even though workers and university students in the state of Indiana can both claim a religious exemption to vaccination, there is a gap in these rights for healthcare students, since the hospitals can refuse them entry to meet their clinical requirements. They are left without an avenue to pursue their career even after filing an exemption.
- Lawmakers have told us this was never the intention and they want to close this loophole so that all employees and students are protected equally.
- The State of Indiana has cited the need for more healthcare workers over and over again. It is time to prioritize closing this loophole and remove barriers to completing health science degrees by making it a law that clinical placements may not require vaccination as a condition of participating in or obtaining clinical training.
- Help us protect healthcare students by asking Chairman Behning to schedule HB 1160 for a committee hearing. The committee hearing is the first step to moving the bill toward becoming law in the state of Indiana. If your lawmaker is not on the committee assigned to this bill, you won’t see an email recipient listed at this time. Don’t worry—we’ll keep you updated and let you know when it’s time for your lawmaker to take action on this bill.
