South Carolina Moms Need Access to Doulas to Improve Birth Outcomes
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
In collaboration with Instituteforchildsuccess.org
- H3108 establishes a framework for recognizing and reimbursing doula services through both Medicaid and private insurance.
- This bill is needed in South Carolina because the state has some of the worst maternal and fetal outcomes of the nation.
- Doulas increase positive birth outcomes for both moms and babies because they support and advocate for moms before, during, and after childbirth
- Doulas are a critical line of defense from an unwanted medical procedure (like a vaccine) when a mom is in a vulnerable state and can’t advocate for herself or her baby
- 10 counties in South Carolina are considered “Maternity Care Deserts” resulting in limited access to care for moms, expanding Medicaid coverage to pay for doulas will make them accessible to the moms that need them the most and get rid of these “Deserts!”
- ACTION: Please ask these key legislators to continue the debate on H3108 as SC moms want this bill to pass.
