End Governor Holcomb’s Public Health Emergency Today
Our Stand
- With the renewal of Indiana's state of emergency an 18th time, Gov. Holcomb has made the emergency a way of life for Hoosiers -- where he retains the powers and the people must remain subservient.
- An emergency does not last a year and a half. By its very nature, an emergency is limited. And, the extra powers that come with that emergency should be limited as well. This protects the common good of our state, prevents abuses of power and protects the freewill of the people. Otherwise, a governor becomes a king.
- We asked our legislature to end the emergency last spring. It was already clear then that Gov. Holcomb had no intention of ending the emergency on his own accord. Representative J.D. Prescott put forward House Concurrent Resolution 18, which would force Holcomb to end the emergency. More than one-third of the House signed onto the bill, but Republican leadership prevented the resolution from being moved forward.
- Now we demand our legislators finally address HCR18. When our legislators meet later this month to complete the work of redistricting, we insist that they complete this unfinished business. We are unwilling to wait another several months until legislators reconvene in January to end this emergency. By not taking back these powers from Gov. Holcomb as soon as possible, our representatives are consenting to keeping one man calling the shots for all of Indiana.
- We have lived under the edicts of Gov. Holcomb since March 6, 2020, and it is time to let people choose for themselves how to navigate through Covid. It is wrong to force Hoosiers to live in a chronic state of emergency.
