Parents Are Being Cut Out, Has It Happened to You?
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- Across the state, parents are being left out of vital decisions about their children’s health, education, and privacy. We’re collecting stories from parents who have been denied access to information or excluded from their child’s care, because your experiences matter when it comes to the legislative process. Your voices can help drive change.
- We’re working to protect parental consent in healthcare and in schools through legislation that ensures:
- Schools can’t survey or collect sensitive data from students without explicit parental approval.
- Biofeedback and medical devices can’t be used on minors without written parental consent.
- Parents must be kept informed and involved in all aspects of their child’s wellbeing in schools, hospitals, pharmacies, and mental health offices.
- ACTION: If you’ve experienced being cut out of your child’s care, whether at a hospital, a doctor’s office, a pharmacy, or a counseling visit, we want to hear from you.
- Examples include:
-
- A biopsy or procedure performed without full access to your child’s chart or records.
- Being asked to leave the exam room or denied information while your child was handed an iPad for a “mental health screening.”
- A pharmacy refusing to share prescription details without your child’s permission.
-
- These stories help lawmakers understand the real-world consequences of outdated laws that divide families under the guise of privacy, especially in cases involving mental health, sexual health, or drug treatment.
- If this has happened to you, please take a few minutes to share your experience. Your story could make all the difference in protecting families from overreach and ensuring parents remain partners in their children’s care and education.
- The legislation your story will support SB 166/HB 173, the Parental Rights Bill of 2026.
