ATTENTION COLORADO: Tell Your Legislators to Support the Freedom to Choose How to Treat COVID-19
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- Representative Stephanie Luck, Senator Dennis Hisey, and Senator Jerry Sonnenburg introduced legislation HB1015 that would give certain health care providers the ability to repurpose therapeutic drugs that have been approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration for another purpose to provide treatment to individuals with COVID-19.
- HB1015 specifies that a physician, physician assistant, or advanced practice registered nurse with prescriptive authority may prescribe and dispense, and a pharmacist may dispense, therapeutic drugs for off-label use, including hydroxychloroquine sulfate and ivermectin, to provide prophylaxis or outpatient (at-home) and inpatient (hospital) treatment to an individual with COVID-19, and under HB1015 this practice is not unprofessional conduct or otherwise grounds for discipline.
- Medical doctors should not be punished for prescribing known, safe, effective, and FDA-approved products. Off-label use by doctors is LEGAL and quite common.
- SHF stands for choice when it comes to what you put in your body; please send an email to the Health & Insurance Committee urging them to support HB1015.
