Florida: Support repealing W.H.O. jurisdiction in our state
Our Stand: At-A-Glance
- As you may recall, back in 2023, the Florida legislature passed SB252, which gave an “International Health Organization” (a.k.a. the World Health Organization, or WHO) jurisdiction within our state.
- This year, we have filed a straightforward bill to repeal that portion of the law, ensuring that the World Health Organization has no jurisdiction in Florida. Senator Joe Gruters filed SB340, and House Representative Ryan Chamberlin and Monique Miller filed HB6011, which are twin bills.
- Some may ask, “Why file this bill now, since President Trump just removed us from the WHO?” The answer is that an executive order can be changed at any time. With a new president in office in the future, the U.S. could easily rejoin the WHO. It’s wise to remove this language from our state law, as Florida does not need directives from a global health organization.
- Please email both your Senator and House Rep asking them to co-sponsor the legislation and to support the bills this coming session, this is common sense legislation that needs to pass.
